Koranic Verses

I just recieved a chainletter from the wife of a good friend who is slated to go the the Middle East in the next few months. He'll be there either 7 or 14 months and while he is a network and communications specialist, he'll quickly remind you that he is a Marine and therefore, a rifleman first.

The e-mail contained the text:
Koran (9:11) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; andthere was peace.
Which I thought sounded very unMoslem for the Judeao/Christian concept of humility is unknown to them usless it is in the form of guile.

So I checked online at this site and guess what? Chapter 9, verse 11 reads
[9.9] They have taken a small price for the communications of Allah, so they turn away from His way; surely evil is it that they do.
[9.10] They do not pay regard to ties of relationship nor those of covenant in the case of a believer; and these are they who go beyond the limits.
[9.11] But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and We make the communications clear for a people who know.
[9.12] And if they break their oaths after their agreement and (openly) revile your religion, then fight the leaders of unbelief-- surely their oaths are nothing-- so that they may desist.
[9.13] What! will you not fight a people who broke their oaths and aimed at the expulsion of the Apostle, and they attacked you first; do you fear them? But Allah is most deserving that you should fear Him, if you are believers.
[9.14] Fight them, Allah will punish them by your hands and bring them to disgrace, and assist you against them and heal the hearts of a believing people.
Which is entirely different than the verse quoted in the e-mail. I ended up adding the surrounding verses just to make the context clear.

Oh well.

A liberal may just see no problem with the fact that it is made up, since it could be true, right? If a forged document is good enough to condemn a fighter pilot who served his country, why not imaginery Koranic verses?

There is so much good material that the wives of troops could be e-mailing around, why people make up stuff is beyond me. It just harms their credibility. It's a fun read, don't get me wrong, but I just wish they'd not make stuff up.

That all being said, I did enjoy it so much, I just have to share it again:
Koran (9:11) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.
Now I just need Toby Keith singing "I'll put a boot up your ass, it's the American way" blaring in the background to complete the mood.

Lastly, look at the URL of the Koran online. Nice to see our tax dollars are not supporting anything religeous and are going for things like education.

I think I need to e-mail the webmaster the correct 11th verse of the 9th chapter and see if I get a reply.
